Putting a percentage figure on this is nonsense, and it’s a shame Nigel Farage didn’t say that in the debate. What do you base it on? Number of words? Number of Acts? Number of offences created? A very short Act can have a far greater effect on people’s lives than a long one.

Whatever it is, it is perfectly plain that laws emanating from the EU have a major effect on life in the UK, from landfill taxes to flourescent lightbulbs to Post Office letter sizes. With so many competences handed over to the EU under the Lisbon Treaty, that effect will only grow

Clegg’s performance was utterly abysmal and his arrogant attitude very unhelpful.
A check on Wikipedia shows there are 21 million people living in Romania and nearly 9 million in Bulgaria. Looks like Clegg can’t count. According to the House of Commons Library, between 1989 and 2009 14.6% of Acts of Parliament originated in Europe. That’s double Clegg’s claimed figure. In addition most Laws are passed without
Parliamentary scrutiny by way of Statutory Instrument.
