Teachers would have to be licensed and could be sacked if they fail tough checks on their abilities, under plans unveiled by Labour.
In other words, spread the toxic doctrine of socialism and left wing ideas to our children, or labour will take away your living (license) ….
Well, in theory it is a great idea to evaluate teachers. But the problem is that teaching is not like being a doctor or lawyer. The quality of teaching is a lot harder to quantify. When a doctor or lawyer is incompetent and makes mistakes, it is pretty easy to tell. The quality of teaching does not only depend on the teacher. It depends on whether kids come from stable, well-off homes where they are encouraged and supported. It depends on whether parents and head teachers are supportive. And everyone thinks he/she is an expert on how to be a teacher, so teaching is constantly subject to political and parental interference.
Immediately I can see the extensive red-tape offered by this proposal. But we already know, through OFSTED inspections, who the bad teachers are. Don’t we? And we already have the means to get rid of poor teachers. What has been lacking is the will – and ‘will’ doesn’t cost money – to weed out bad teachers. Let’s not burden good teachers with this silly idea. P.S. It is the Left which has brought our education system to its knees. Anything agreed between Labour and the teaching unions should come with a health warning.
Education education education was their watch word when in power . Dumber dumber dumber was the result after they were gone
