George Osborne threatens to punish voters with tax rises if they defy him on Brexit.
Osborne announces plans to fine voters heavily for daring to disobey. (Is such a threat even legal during an election? He’d surely be called if he instead offered to increase personal allowances if we vote remain)
What makes him think he’ll still have a job if we vote out?
The truth at last.
As the dire predictions of the remainers will not happen naturally the chancellor intends to bring them about artificially. I would not like to be in his shoes even if he wins using this dirty tactic. The remainers are taking their case to the point of absurdity. I don’t think we will any longer with any degree of veracity be able to call ourselves a democracy if the remainers win using these sort of methods.
He is promising to punish the British middle and lower class because his upper class will be losing out on even more money from EU.
So the strategy is to talk the UK economy down so hard market sentiment wills it to happen if Brexit wins, making it easier to propose, hold and win a second referendum.
If the British Government doesn’t believe its own terrifying predictions, why is it making them? Could it be that Cameron and Osborne are confusing Britain’s interests with their own?
In their myopia they clearly see a Remain vote as all that will save their careers but ought to have realised that the resentment they have caused will ultimately doom their regardless of the outcome. If they had campaigned with dignity and left the dirty work to others they might have been able to retain a modicum of goodwill from Leave MPs and voters even in the event of a Leave vote. Either they still can’t see this or have realised that ship has sailed and they are now doubling down.
Having called this referendum to let the people decide, the British Government should have directed all its efforts towards reassuring the markets that, whichever way the obviously close vote might go, Britain itself would be fine, and had a great future ahead of it. Instead the Government has done the exact opposite – predicting Apocalypse.
They have talked down the economy. They have threatened the British People. They have used every scare tactic in their dirty tricks book. But Brits resolve is very strong and we won’t be lied to or take kindly to threats.
Osborne’s nose is past the point of no return. In the event of Brexit, he will have no mandate to raise anything.
Win or lose the EU vote, Cameron and Osborne have lost all credibility.
