It is foolish to negotiate with a bitter, and vengeful EU.

The EU will make threats as they always do and the the UK will respond. The EU is ripping itself apart and will continue until it is completely ruined.

French foreign minister and close ally to President Emmanuel Macron, Jean-Yves Le Drian, said on Sunday that “everyone is going to defend their interests” in the coming trade negotiations, but clearly signalled that the national interests of the different parties would lead to fractious negotiations.

It is foolish to negotiate with a bitter, and vengeful EU, while under the gun. It will just lead to many unnecessary and onerous concessions. Let the clock run out, on the transition period, and go WTO. Then, take your time negotiating a trade deal with the EU, that doesn’t cost you your independence, or your resources.

If the EU persists in this nonsense, just tell them no deal, WTO terms, EU courts have no jurisdiction in the UK, stay out of our territorial waters, and come back when you’re ready.

The UK can replace what it loses from trade with the EU from trade deals with the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and so on. The EU has nothing they can replace the UK with, otherwise they would have done so.

They’ll wise up, or rather the larger businesses in the major EU countries will make them wise up, when their exports start to suffer, and when they start to forget what seafood tastes like.

The real problem for the EU is that they cannot allow a situation where the UK is in any way successful after Brexit. And right now, that’s something they have no control over.

Assuming our politicians don’t ‘do a May’.
